The first lockdown saw my first extended foray into still lives. Well, that is, still lives without a portrait attached - the silverware in my portrait of Corbin and King almost stole the show.

Starved of my human sitters, I rummaged in my cupboards for things 'paintogenic'. I’ve always had a fondness of vintage royal mugs since growing up with a couple in the glass cupboard at home, and seized on this one and a chrome sugar bowl which had somehow come into my possession through the family. It was only when I finished it that I realised the 'coronation' emblazoned around the top of the mug was halfway to 'corona', which did seem somewhat apt in the circumstance.
