If you’ve watched series 2 of The White Lotus you know something of Taormina, where the action is centred on the Four Seasons hotel perched atop a cliff, with stunning views of the bay and seemingly unending drama.

I went there last year with The Muse. We booked the holiday before the series aired and visited the hotel only after the first few episodes had been released. It felt like we were the first up a mountain treading paths in virgin snow.

We weren’t staying there… Darling, I’m not made of money, but we went there for drinks, and then for breakfast - an all you can eat €75 per person extravaganza. I find breakfasts are quite a cost-effective way to sample the finest establishments on earth, if you turn up with a rabid appetite and aren’t politically opposed to slipping the odd gluten free role into your tote bag. (Don’t judge me, it’s hard to source lunch out there abroad if you have a sensitive digestive system.)

This vista is of the place at the edge of the old town where all visitors congregate and stand agog at the view. I love silhouettes and vanishing points, so happy as a clam was I.
